The Toronto Maple Leafs opened up their playoff series against the Boston Bruins last night and won in convincing fashion. After an exhilarating game, the Leafs beat the Bruins and Toronto went wild. Nylander took a high-sticking penalty nine minutes into the first period, which led to a quick powerplay goal for the Bruins. Down 1-0, the Leafs fought back - seven minutes later, Mitch Marner picked up a rebound and put the puck in the back of the net to tie the game at one apiece.\nEarly in the second period, the Leafs were down a man once again, when Kapanen also took a high-sticking penalty. While short-handed, Marner managed to break free and head down the ice on a breakaway. Just as he settled the puck down to take his shot, Bruins' Jake DeBrusk took Marner out from behind, giving him a penalty shot. Marner made Tuukka Rask look silly with the deke show he put on. He scored on the penalty shot, giving the Leafs a 2-1 lead and scoring the first short-handed playoff penalty shot goal in Maple Leafs franchise history.\nWith about a minute and a half left in the second period, Kadri showed his epic vision. He made a beautiful stretch pass, putting Nylander in on a breakaway where he made no mistake, scoring a goal and putting the Leafs up 3-1. Late in the third period, Tavares put the nail in the coffin with an empty net goal, giving the Leafs a 4-1 win over the Bruins in game one. This marks the first time the Leafs have won a game one matchup since April 9th, 2003 when they beat the Philidelphia Flyers.\nFrederik Anderson played his part, coming up with some huge saves to keep the Leafs lead, stopping 37 out of the 38 shots he faced. The Leafs were fast, physical and looking like they had something to prove, not wanting to repeat what happened in last years playoffs.\nLeafs fans couldn't be happier with the team's game one performance and win:\nAt least I can go to bed happy knowing the #Leafs won. #LeafsNation #LeafsForever— x- LeafsAreLife 💙 (@MapleLeafsLuver) April 12, 2019\nHave they announced the date and time of the parade yet?#GoLeafsGo #LeafsForever pic.twitter.com/zGVvu5zP3t— Willie Handler is back at writing ✍️📖 (@WillieHandler) April 12, 2019\nTuukka Rask after that Mitch Marner penalty shot goal.#Leafsforever pic.twitter.com/ENPZPxzL5s— SixStringDude 🎸🇨🇦 (@howee62) April 12, 2019\nYEEEAAAHHH LEAFS!
