Drake’s courtside behaviour during Raptors games is getting to be too much for the NBA. According to a report by ESPN, NBA officials reached out to the Toronto Raptors following the rapper’s excitable courtside conduct during the Eastern Conference finals. Some of the most memorable Drake Raptors game moments this season included laughing at Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo after he missed a free-throw and rubbing the shoulders of Raptors coach Nick Nurse, a gesture which many have deemed disrespectful. This isn’t the first time the Raptors have received a phone call about their Global Ambassador. Last year, Drake was issued a warning by the NBA following his altercation with former Cleveland Cavaliers centre Kendrick Perkins. The rapper and Perkins were involved in a heated exchange, hurling profanity-laced insults at each other before being separated by security. The NBA has strict rules on courtside conduct and bad sportsmanship. NBA commissioner Adam Silver released a memo earlier this year as a reminder to the league’s franchises to keep their fans' behaviour in check. It sounds like you guys are saying it’s more than I realize… There’s certainly no place for fans and, you know, whatever it is exactly that Drake is for the Toronto Raptors. You know, to be on the court, there’s boundaries and lines for a reason, and like I said, the league is usually pretty good at being on top of stuff like that," Budenholzer said, according to ESPN. "It's been entertaining," he said Monday. "I know it's a tricky situation with him being right there on the court, but at the end of the day, he's having fun, having -- you can't hate on nobody having fun. Well, I guess in this life everybody hates on people having fun. So, it's par for the course on that one." The Raptors face off against the Golden State Warriors for Game 1 of the NBA Finals in Toronto this Thursday, May 30th at 9:00 PM.
