The Penticton lifeguard was charged with child pornography and several other charges. While two victims have been identified, police believe that there are more. Some may not even have known that they were being sexually exploited.\nEdward Casavant, a 54-year-old man from Penticton, British Columbia, has been arrested following an outstanding warrant. While arrested on May 15, 2019, he was also charged with 10 counts relating to a number of alleged child pornography and sexual assault incidents.\nAccording to Penticton RCMP in a news release, Casavant was a long-time lifeguard at a Summerland recreation facility. In November 2018, RCMP received information about Casavant that sparked a child sexual assault and pornography investigation.\nCasavant, also known as Eddie Spaghetti to many of the kids that attended the facility, was employed as a lifeguard for over 30 years, beginning in the late 1980s. During this time, RCMP have speculated that Casavant was able to gain access to school-aged children through his lifeguard position.\nNot only did Casavant work as a lifeguard for an employer, but he also volunteered his time. During many local summer camps and other community events, Casavant would work as a lifeguard. In all regards, RCMP believe that he “may have had access to children in this capacity.”\nPenticton RCMP\nFollowing his arrest earlier this week, Casavant has been charged with 10 counts relating to incidents that took place between 2008 and 2014.
