Multiple brands across Canada have recently been doing their part to limit the amount of plastic that is used throughout their stores. A&W was one of the first brands to stop the use of plastic straws throughout their stores and many chains and restaurants have been following suit. Metro has decided to limit the use of plastic that is being used in their products by adopting its new packaging and material policy. Metro's policy will aim to reduce the amount of single-use plastic by over 50%.\nIn a press release, Metro stated that this new policy will be covering corporate, food and pharmacy products and limiting the amount of waste that occurs throughout their chain. While there are many initiatives that Metro is implementing throughout their store, one of the main goals is limiting their use of single-use plastics.\nMetro is planning on reducing the number of single-use plastic bags by 50% by 2023. They state, "Metro will never compromise on packaging properties that ensure product preservation, quality, and safety."\nSince Metro is one of the largest food stores in Canada, these changes for eliminating single-use plastic across the nation are expected to make a big impact on the amount of plastic that is used by Canadians on the daily.\nThis isn't the only thing that Metro is doing to help save the environment. Back in April, Metro also announced that it would allow customers in Metro stores across Quebec to bring their own reusable containers to purchase fresh products. An initiative that may travel to the rest of the country in the future.
